The people of Stocksbridge are working together to get Stocksbridge dedicated a ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ town.
The town’s excellent location on the edge of the Peak District, in close proximity to five long-distance trails and a superb variety of shorter walks around local communities, reservoirs, ancient woodland, rivers and rocky crags, means that it has something special to offer walkers, whether visitors or local residents.
Gaining Walkers Are Welcome status can have a lot of benefits for a town by supporting the local economy, helping to ensure the maintenance of local facilities and bringing people together to enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity. However it depends on the support and involvement of local residents so if you support this initiative then please sign one of the many petitions around the town (in the Library, the Sports Centre or The Lunch Box café for example). Or perhaps you have some time to spare and would like to get more involved?
