Spring is nearly here and what better than to get outdoors and into conservation work? Check out Steel Valley Project!
The Steel Valley Project is a countryside conservation charity that has been working in Stocksbridge and the surrounding area since 1988.
They work with volunteers and local residents offering training and education as well as carrying out interpretation and heritage activities as part of their Heritage Lottery funded programme, ‘Stone to Steel’.
The ‘Stone to Steel’ website offers a marvellous resource containing information about local history and heritage as well as downloadable walking guides, news from Steel Valley Project and its partners, and the latest local events and activities for people to get involved in. Visit www.stonetosteel.org.uk for more information!
Originally founded with the support of British Steels (now Corus) when new native woodland was planted adjacent to the new Stocksbridge bypass, the Steel Valley Project has grown into a well-established local groups carrying out practical conservation and habitat management.
