The Princess Royal Crookes Folk Club is a ‘singers and musicians’ affair with a special guest performer each week.
The club operates on most Thursdays through the year, having occasional breaks, and is usually very well attended with a near capacity audience most weeks. The club started in the summer of 2009 and continues a tradition started by previous clubs inhabiting the venue in the latter half of the last century.
The Princess Royal can be found at 43 Slinn Street, Crookes S10.
Although making no charge for entry, there is a voluntary collection dish for the guest performer’s expenses, but singers and musicians are not expected to contribute.
The club gets fully under way by 8.30pm with the main guest performer spot at 9.30pm. Visiting singers and musicians need to arrive before the start of the evening’s events or as early as possible to secure a spot by arrangement with the host on the night.
The current guest list:
- April 15th Zoe and Dave Bottomley
- April 22nd Phoebe and Mikey
- April 29th to be arranged
- May 6th Folk Group – The Heathen Kings
- May 13th Lou Marriott

Beginner musician session
At 7.30pm help is usually available for people wishing to make headway on their own instrument or wishing to try out various instruments. String instruments are available, but organiser Pete Shaw says it would be most helpful if people could contact him beforehand so that an appropriate instrument can be made available on the night. 07703 298164 or email@example.com.
