Grenoside & Birley Carr Players (G&BCP) will present ‘The Sorcerer’, by WS Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan, as their inaugural production at the Community Centre, Grenoside from 6th – 10th April at 7-30pm.
The Sorcerer involves a plot by Alexis, a young man about to be married, to distribute a love potion to villagers so that they will all know everlasting love. This will be achieved by administering the potion in cups of tea brewed by the vicar, as can be seen on the attached photograph. As in all operettas, the potion renders numerous unforeseen betrothals and it takes a major sacrifice the sorcerer to return matters to their normal complexity.
G&BCP was recently formed by the merging of Grenoside Players and Birley Carr Methodist Musical & Dramatic Society, both groups having been in existence for over 60 years. The Sorcerer is the first operetta to be staged at Grenoside Community Centre, thus bringing a greater range of theatre for our community in NW Sheffield. Brian Barber, Joint Chairman of G&BCP said that the group wish to bring more opportunity for our public to enjoy & even participate in operetta.
