Stocksbridge cartoon history workshops start today

Preparing to create a community musical, Steel Valley Beacon Arts has organized a performance at the Venue, Stocksbridge of “A Cartoon History of Here”.

Celebrity poet Ian McMillan and renowned cartoonist Tony Husband will provide “an evening suitable for audiences from 7 to 107 years old” full of “hilarious live action cartoon starring friendly folk, fantastic fortunes, dazzling ambition and tender moments”.

Ian will encourage the audience to share stories of personal experiences or local events from which to cook up poems and cartoons. They will be set to music at follow up workshops during which Ian and composer Luke Carver Goss will work with participants.

These workshops have been arranged by Steel Valley Beacon Arts as part of their Community History Through the Arts programme and will take place on Monday 22nd March from 3.00pm to 5.30pm and from 7.00pm to 9.00pm in St John’s Church, Deepcar and on Tuesday 23rd March at the same times in The Venue, Stocksbridge.

These events are open to anyone of any age or experience. A small charge will be made but those going to see the Cartoon History of Here will get into the workshops free.
