Pay-as-you-park mobile phones

Sheffield City Council just announced there is now a facility to pay for parking using mobile phones.

The scheme is currently running in Council-run car parks and payment by phone is certainly handy if there’s no change available.

However, a sting in the tail is the 20p “convenience charge” that applies.

Although many will likely welcome the new initiative, it has been pointed out that using electronic payments should save money for the local authority – so why not a discount?

One response to “Pay-as-you-park mobile phones

  1. Good show SCC. I’ve been using pay-by-mobile at an NCP car-park for some time. It is very convenient, but NCP levy a 40p charge each time and I do resent every single time.

Surely sending a SMS receipt isn’t costing them 40p? Perhaps they need a new mobile phone contract ;->
