Should there be public benefit to local communities from the bailout of banks with public money?
Urban Forum certainly thinks so. As a national charity with over 250 UK community groups forming their membership, they campaign for communities to have a greater influence over decisions that affect them.
Now with a Facebook campaign focusing on how public bailouts for banks might be put to better use, they say:
“Reform the banking system to provide public benefit in return for public funds. Community Reinvestment banking would eliminate discrimination and financial exclusion and support enterprise and community action.
We’re calling on political parties to change the way banks work to avoid the mistakes of the recent past. Join us!”
