Giant US food conglomerate Kraft confirmed today that it is taking over confectioner Cadbury in a deal reportedly worth £11.5bn.
Cadbury repeatedly fought off takeover bids from Kraft over recent months but the company’s board obviously thought the latest offer too good to miss when it recommended the deal to shareholders.
Just what this means for the 800 workers at Cadbury in Sheffield is as yet unclear. Only 14 months ago the Hillsborough plant was saved from 8,000 Cadbury job cuts worldwide. The Hillsborough plant manufactures Liquorice Allsorts, Jelly Babies, Maynard’s Wine Gums and Trebor Mints. It also makes Black Jacks and Fruit Salads.
