South Yorkshire Police issued a black ice warning, advising drivers and pedestrians to take extra care.
Bus services are affected as ice has effectively closed off some of the city’s roads.
Woodhead and Snake Passes remain closed and this is causing pressure on traffic flow at the M1. Road updates available here.

Today’s temperatures are unlikely to reach above freezing and some snowfall is expected in the west of Sheffield.
Also be particularly careful on foot as areas where pavements have been cleared of snow are likely to be covered with black ice.
