The Hillsborough Hotel on Langsett Road is a perfect little haven away from the gloomy month of January.
Christmas long-gone and New Year now a vague memory of good intentions, an interminable January brings in credit card statements and utilities bills for many of us. It’s a long wait for pay day.
Small treats are the order of the day and so what better than a trip to the Hillsborough Hotel, a pleasant pub staffed by friendly faces?
For £5, you can take advantage of the “Pie & a Pint” deal on Mondays from 4pm onwards. Yesterday’s shepherd’s pie was delicious, served with rich gravy, mushy peas and big fat chips (almost part of anyone’s “five a day”). Wednesdays offer “curry & a pint” specials.
Thanks to their very own Sheffield Crown Brewery, several excellent “real ale” beers are on tap – and the Hillsborough Pale Ale especially is both tasty and light enough to drink with pretty much any good meal. There are also classy lagers and a choice of fine wines in stock.
From the main menu, both the burger meal and the “pie of the day” came highly recommended by staff and these are made with meat supplied by the renowned Crawshaw’s butchers. Again, pies come with gravy, mushy peas and big chips, and Saturday’s steak & ale pie was spot-on. Veggie options exist when it comes to burgers, sausage & mash, and more (and we’d be happy to post a review from vegetarians who have sampled them).
There are also regular quiz nights and live music gigs – or, if you prefer a quiet evening, newspapers and books available to read.
Hillsborough Hotel is a great place to take a friend or to visit with a bunch of mates. And if you ever need to stay the night, single rooms are available at £40 and twin/double for £60.
Brighten up your January and renew auld acquaintances by taking someone special to this wee gem of a hostelry. 😎
(This post is neither sponsored nor solicited – North West Sheffield News Blog just really enjoyed the feel of the place, the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the food, oh, and the taste of the beer!)
