Road closures in Sheffield

Police are warning motorists not to make journeys unless absolutely necessary as drivers encounter atrocious driving conditions this morning.

Heavy snow has already made a number of roads impassable and broken down vehicles on others are causing added problems.

The A628 Woodhead Pass and A57 Snake Pass are closed in both directions and the A6195 Dearne Valley By- Pass at Wombwell (near to Jump) has also been shut.

Others currently closed:

  • A628 at Flouch Roundabout
  • A61 at Tankersley
  • A616 at Stocksbridge By-Pass ( numerous vehicles broken down)
  • Wood Walk at Wombwell
  • Barr Lane, Mapplewell
  • Doncaster Road, Consibrough

The following in the Rotherham area have also been closed: Alma Road, Meadowbank Road and Meadowhall Road.

“Snow is still falling in many areas,” said a police spokesman. “Drivers should not venture out unless really necessary and if they have to should make sure they stick to the main roads.”

Much more snow is also forecast from tonight. So expect disruptions to continue over the coming days.
