North West Sheffield News Blog!

This is the first posting on the North West Sheffield News Blog.

It’s January 2nd 2010 and the global economy is still in uncertain. So why start a news blog?

Well, national and local newspapers are struggling right now as advertisers reduce their marketing spending on print publications. Local communities – witness closed and derelict shops along many of Sheffield’s arterial roads – are feeling the pinch.

So perhaps now is a good time to encourage local businesses to get promoted and local news reported on a site dedicated to the North West Sheffield area.

My name is Russell Cavanagh. As a qualified photographer and seasoned journalist with considerable marketing experience, I’ll be looking for interesting articles about what’s going on in North West Sheffield. These will be stories from the community, wider issues affecting the area, and items reflecting what local businesses have to offer. Links to useful information will also be included.

Outside contributions will be welcome! These can be in the form of messages left via the “contact” page – that will be edited into a suitable format – or appear as comments left by viewers and readers against each story posted. All material will be edited and moderated so that nothing offensive slips past and to ensure a consistently high quality of content – though a variety of opinions will no doubt appear! Suggestions for improving the site are also welcome!

I’ll be working as reporter and editor for this site whilst developing and marketing its presence on the web. So a lot of my own time and money will go into it. And although donations from readers and modest revenue from business advertisers will be welcome, it will remain free to view.

I look forward to hearing from you!
